Poppies

Poppies are all oil on self framed stretched canvas. The paintings measure 24" x 30" and were completed in 2010.

I painted the red Poppy in a class I taught. One of my students mentioned that the painting would look good as a triptych so I did two more in different colors. Everyone seems to like the red one because I sold it. Painting flowers can be fun because flower petals often take on a variety of shapes and shades.

I didn't get too much painting done in 2010 because I've been learning Quick Books on the job for the last seven months. I finally got all of the inventory and sales posted for two companies for the last six month of 2010. I'm not sure how we're going to deal with the first six months but, as the accountant tells me, "It should be interesting."

As intuitive as the software might be it is still not easy when you know virtually nothing about the program. Secondly, I'm NOT a bookkeeper. I think I've got a handle on it now so I should be turning out more Palouse paintings shortly.

At least that is my hope.

PAINTINGS OF THE PALOUSE

I am presenting for your perusal Paintings of the Palouse completed in the last six months. All of the paintings measure 24" x 30" or 30" x 40". All are done on canvas with two inch stretcher bars. The sides of the panels are painted along with the rest of the painting. BTW: This makes the paintings very difficult to handle until the paintings are dry.

Some of the compositions are fairly simple and take no more than a couple of days to complete. My work day usually consists of anywhere from 6-8 hours (sometimes longer - sometimes shorter). So, the minimum time on the most simple painting may take as much as 16 hours to complete. More complex paintings may take from 40 to 80 hours to complete. Some take weeks of work notwithstanding the drying time in between.

When you look at the work of an artist, (any artist) please keep in mind the time and effort it has taken to produce the work. What price do you put on your own time your own educational training? How many hours would you be willing to work for the same price you think is fair to the artist for his or her work?

All of my paintings are originals. There are no reproductions; no copies. If you choose to purchase a painting you will have the only original and will not find it in a larger/smaller format somewhere else in a gift shop somewhere. Each piece is a labor of love. Why? Because I love to paint.

Rental Rates: 24” x 30” - $25.00 per painting per Month (Min. 3 months)
30” x 40” - $30.00 per painting per Month (Min. 3 months)

10 paintings or more deduct $5.00 per Month per painting

Rent to Own: All rental fees applied to the total purchase price of the painting.

NOTE: Full asking price less rental fees due on all paintings lost or damaged while under a rental agreement.

I finished this painting a couple of weeks ago. It’s oil on plywood and measures roughly 3 ½’ x 4’. There is a story behind it. This is the condensed version.

There was a little bakery where stopped every morning on the way to work. On the wall, just inside the door there hung a calendar; not one with a picture for every month but a single picture for the entire year. The picture intrigued me because it was difficult to tell if it was a photograph or a painting. I’m still not sure.

The bakery owner had no interest in keeping the calendar and gave it to me. I rolled it up and placed it somewhere for safe keeping. This was in 1966.

Recently I found the calendar (or what was left of it) and set about the task of creating a painting. This is the result. It does not have the photographic quality of the original as that was not my intent. Some things have been added, changed or eliminated. The calendar was just a tool.
